Application domain

This case fits into the contex of the evaluation of Sites of Community Importance (SCI) vulnerability to plant protection products (agrochemicals and pesticides), through an analysis of threats and potential threats to the target species and habitats.

Case Study Objectives

The case wants to address the use of new web technologies and GIS analysis to perform an integrated multi-criteria assessment for the evaluation of potential hazard to SCI areas caused by the exposure to agrochemicals and pesticide.

Provision of training/education
This case study will be implemented as Master thesis in a wellknown International Master in Geographic Information Systems and Science at NOVA-IMS University in Lisbon.

Learning outcomes

Available training material

This course is comprised of a single Module with the following materials: The e-Book “Risk Index Models”, a tutorial “Procedures to calculate the Risk Index” and exercise “GIS Modelling”. The Module also includes as supporting web application and data for the exercise.
After the training, the participants will be able to apply the scientific knowledge given by research activities to a more practical assessment of potential environmental hazard that could be useful to both public authorities or environmental consultants.
